NDIS In Home Care Sydney

For many people with disability, being able to live in their own home is an important goal. The NDIS can fund eligible supports that help participants manage daily routines, build independence and remain involved in their home and community.

What is NDIS in home care Sydney?

In-home care is a general term for NDIS-funded support delivered in a participant’s home. Depending on individual needs and funding, this may include assistance with personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, daily routines and other eligible supports.  The in-home supports are funded through Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life, which can include help or supervision with everyday personal and household tasks. Other supports, such as disability-related health supports or occupational therapy, may be funded under different parts of an NDIS plan depending on the participant’s needs and funding.

What can support workers help with at home?

Support is shaped around your goals, but common examples include:

  • Personal care: showering, dressing, grooming and toileting, done with dignity.
  • Household tasks: cleaning, laundry and keeping the home safe (see our domestic assistance service).
  • Meals: planning, shopping and cooking with you or for you.
  • Health routines: medication assistance, NDIS community nursing where clinical care is needed.
  • Getting out: transport to appointments and community participation.
  • Family breaks: respite care so carers can rest.
  • Skill building: occupational therapy to help you do more for yourself over time.

How is in-home care funded?

Core Supports are usually flexible, meaning funding can move between categories of the same funding type. Hours depend on your assessed needs, so a plan with more complex support will stretch differently from one with a few visits a week. Rates can also vary for evenings, weekends and public holidays, which is worth remembering when you plan your roster.

How your plan is managed changes your choices. If the NDIA manages it, you must use registered providers. Self-managed or plan-managed participants can also use unregistered ones. A plan manager pays invoices and tracks your budget, and a support coordinator helps you find and line up providers.
